Structured Exercise Controls Blood Sugar

From the 23 studies that covered structured exercise training, researchers found that structured exercise training that consists of aerobic exercise, resistance training, or both combined is associated with HbA1c reduction in patients with Type 2 diabetes. Structured exercise training of more than 150 minutes per week is associated with greater HbA1c declines than that of 150 minutes or less per week. Physical activity advice is associated with lower HbA1c, but only when combined with dietary advice. Continue reading

It Gets Easier

We have become increasingly confident of the boys’ decision-making skills. We know that they are fully aware of what they can eat. Overall, it has become easier as time goes on to live the diabetic, alkaline lifestyle. Last night I was reflecting on how it was such a big deal to go anywhere at first. Is Sugar Toxic?

On May 26, 2009, Robert Lustig gave a lecture called “Sugar: The Bitter Truth,” in which he made the case that sugar is a “toxin” or a “poison. Sugar is not just an empty calorie, he said; its effect on us is much more insidious. “It has nothing to do with the calories,” he said. “It’s a poison by itself.” In Lustig’s view, sugar should be thought of, like cigarettes and alcohol, as something that’s killing us.
