It Gets Easier
We have become increasingly confident of the boys’ decision-making skills. We know that they are fully aware of what they can eat. Overall, it has become easier as time goes on to live the diabetic, alkaline lifestyle. Last night I was reflecting on how it was such a big deal to go anywhere at first. Now, it is great to give them a quick hug and watch those two precious (healthy) boys go off for a fun night. Continue reading

Is Sugar Toxic?
On May 26, 2009, Robert Lustig gave a lecture called “Sugar: The Bitter Truth,” in which he made the case that sugar is a “toxin” or a “poison. Sugar is not just an empty calorie, he said; its effect on us is much more insidious. “It has nothing to do with the calories,” he said. “It’s a poison by itself.” In Lustig’s view, sugar should be thought of, like cigarettes and alcohol, as something that’s killing us.
