We have been following this healthy lifestyle for a year now since my 15 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Now that we have adapted to the new changes it has become second nature to us and has become part of our everyday life. Seeing my son live a happy and healthy life with none, or minimal use of insulin is extremely rewarding. There is no turning back!

When dealing with our two sons with Type 1 Diabetes, we have really tried to consider this principal. Instead of saying, "We don't get a certain food," we say, "We GET to eat great-tasting healthy food. Instead of focusing on the difficulties facing anyone with Type 1 Diabetes, we try to focus on being thankful for a hopeful and healthy option.

We wholeheartedly support any research for Type 1 Diabetes that is truly searching for a cure. But this should include looking for a natural approach without possible complications. It should consider the factors causing Type 1 Diabetes. If we restore viable beta cells, then we need to solve why they were attacked in the first place. There are many factors to evaluate; dietary factors, such as gluten and dairy, need to be considered. We think a holistic approach, taking into consideration many things, is the best hope for any Type 1 Diabetic to achieve optimal health.

This article is another encouragement to manage Type 1 Diabetes in a healthy way. Treatments that promote eating whatever you want and just covering it with insulin can lead to unstable blood sugar levels and possible long-term complications. A healthy diet and lifestyle can promote optimal health for a Type 1 Diabetic.

It is so nice to meet other families from around the world with children that have Type 1 Diabetes. It is great to encourage each other as we try to manage them in a healthy way. We believe a natural treatment, with the supervision of qualified doctors, is the best way to obtain optimal health.

This information is incredibly encouraging. It appears that maybe the health of a person with Type 1 Diabetes may be improved with stable blood glucose control. Our two type 1 Diabetic sons have very stable blood glucose control. We believe it is from the healthy food we feed them.

We post this article that has research indicating that diet really does matter in the management of Diabetes. We believe it is equally important in managing Type 1 Diabetes. We would not advocate an intermittent low carb diet, but we believe a consistent very low glycemic, Right Carb diet would be beneficial for optimal health. We believe a healthy diet can have a big impact on the health of any person with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.

While most children with Type 1 Diabetes do not need to lose weight, the good point of this article is that diet and exercise do seem to have a positive impact on blood glucose control. We believe that children with Type 1 Diabetes need to be monitored by their doctor for proper weight gain and optimal nutrition. We believe a diet high in healthy fat calories and adequate very low-glycemic Right Carbs is optimal for our children's growth. We have two doctors monitoring our sons' progress. They agree that they are growing and thriving.

It seems like we learn something new from every Type 1 Diabetic parent we meet. These parents in the trenches have so much valuable insight into this disease. We have been helped and encouraged so much by other parents with children that have Type 1 Diabetes.

For those looking for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, we believe it is also important to research the factors causing this disease. If the body can successfully create new beta cells, we must also work on preventing future destruction of them.

Dealing with Type 1 Diabetes can become weary. It is so wonderful when our two sons that have Type 1 Diabetes get good lab results. It makes all of that effort worthwhile. It took us awhile to figure out how to incorporate healthy habits into our lifestyle. Now, it is a habit.

We believe that even sugar-free sodas are not healthy for our sons with Type 1 Diabetes. They are very acidic. A nice alternative is the fresh lemonade we have in our free recipes.

Even though healthy food does cost more than processed food. We think it is worth the money spent on healthy food for our two sons with Type 1 Diabetes. We have recipes that are quick and easy, like the Fast Fudge recipe. Our kids can make this in about 2- 3 minutes. It is delicious, and it is very nutritious.

For those looking for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, these scientific advancements are good news. Hopefully, research will continue to solve some of the mysteries about this disease. In the meantime, we want to take a natural approach to helping the body be in a position of strength. We believe a healthy diet and lifestyle is very important for anyone with Type 1 Diabetes to achieve their optimal health.

Jason, Calorie restriction has been shown repeatedly in studies to help with type two diabetes management. While we would not take this approach, especially with children, reducing the number of calories on the typical western diet could have real positive benefits for most people. Yet, I would agree that limiting calories to 500 per day is extreme. The diabetic-alkaline lifestyle does notdoes not restrict calories, but rather focuses on eating food with the right calories.

In my opinion it is terrible to post an article saying to eat only 500 calories, the reason those people lost weight isn't because they lost fat, its because they lost density in their bones and muscles from the lack of nutrition.
