Happy Healthy Valentines Day everyone! We hope your Valentine’s day is filled with the love of family and close friends. It is our desire that it also be filled with delicious, healthy food that keeps your blood sugars under control and your day running smoothly.
After talking to so many families impacted by type 1 diabetes over these past years, one issue seems to hit most at the center of our emotions: we want our children to lead normal, healthy lives.
The day of diagnosis looks as if it stole the dream every parent has for their child. What we have learned is that taking the measures to help our Type 1 diabetic children achieve their optimal health can really make a dramatic difference in their quality of life. Changing our outlook on diabetes – seeing it as a challenge, not a chore, an opportunity, not an illness – is as important as the changes we made to our diet. Having hope when no hope was given was also instrumental in helping us persevere when things looked bleak. It seems we have been able to stop, even reverse the typical diabetes progression.
7 years ago, this week, Gabriel officially started the Health-e-Solutions diet. Gabriel just hugged me this morning and reminded me, “Remember, I started this whole thing 7 years ago!” Gabriel says he is fine with the Health-e-Solutions diet because he has so many delicious things to eat.
On this Valentine’s Day, let’s hold our precious loved-ones close and let them know how much we love them. Let’s make our best efforts to provide a healthy lifestyle and a healthy outlook, full of hope for a better future. Let’s encourage one another – heart to heart.
